Vovak, of Bethesda, Maryland, is the producer of The Blue Dress, a non-political comedy about Bill and Monica that has already hosted auditions in Philadelphia and at the American Film Institute. Vovak stresses that Bill Clinton was a lonely President in an unhappy marriage, a tone that is captivated in The Blue Dress. The film, based on The Starr Report, reveals that Clinton had feelings for Monica and reached out to her for solace, beginning around Thanksgiving season 1995. The movie sidesteps the topic of impeachment, ending its timeline in January 1998 after Matt Drudge broke the story on DrudgeReport.com and the night before The Washington Post printed it.

Aaron Shaffer, whose paradoxical day job is managing a Greyhound bus depot in Fort Smith, Arkansas, was discovered from his online audition through The Blue Dress casting website, later signing a contract with the film.

“Finding a believable actor to play Bill Clinton’s most trusted advisor was important, especially since Carville is always so serious yet the movie is written for laughs.” Vovak added. “The Bill and Monica saga introduced many over-the-top characters to the public, with the funniest being James Carville and Monica’s mother. We’re still looking for more than fifteen notable speaking parts through The Blue Dress casting website.”

Shaffer will be the second Arkansan working on the movie, the first being the famous Paula Jones, who has signed a contract to play herself, as reported in Time Magazine. The second casting announcement (following Paula Jones) was earlier this year, when Ashley-Rebekah Faulkner was signed to play Monica.

Vovak says he was communicating with Lionsgate’s Steve Rothenberg until Rothenberg’s untimely death last summer from stomach cancer at 50. The relationship began when Rothenberg’s teenage family members in Boca Raton, Florida contacted Vovak, seeking to have their music in the movie. In spite of only meeting through the internet, Vovak has also worked with Wiley Hand, of Colorado, who composed original music for the film.

“Steve [Rothenberg] created and oversaw The Blair Witch Project,” says Vovak. “The Blue Dress is probably the last great movie he had his finger in, so we’re looking to honor his death through using the music created by his family.”

Vovak has also hired Hollywood producer Scott duPont to shape his marketing and distribution strategy. Vovak says, “Now that the financing for the movie is coming together, I will be looking for a distributor at Sundance in late January 2010.”

Further promoting the movie, Vovak has agreed to an upcoming interview with Kate Michael host of The District Dish (which airs on Comcast) and is in talks with Michelle Basch of WTOP radio.

“I wish Peter Morgan success for his movie,” says Daniel Vovak, executive producer for The Blue Dress, a comedy about Bill and Monica. “But the problem with his movie, is that it’s a drama, not a comedy. Americans need to laugh these days, not relive presidential impeachment proceedings.”

Dave Clark, Producer and writer, worked with Vovak to expand the role of Paula Jones, who is playing herself in The Blue Dress. “How can Special Relationship do a movie without having a character playing Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones?” asks Clark. “We met with Paula and decided to expand her part. She definitely knows comedy and has had a first-hand look at Bill.”

Clark added, “Who wants to see Hillary Clinton’s role expanded? She’s bright, but not funny. Paula’s the hysterical one. She was a naïve woman from rural Arkansas thrust into the national spotlight. That’s the conflict that makes this story historic. Americans don’t care about Tony Blair and Bill Clinton. What they want to know is why Bill Clinton got into trouble. The answer is that Paula Jones didn’t have sex with Bill Clinton, and so many other women did. The sad part is that the media punished Paula for doing the right thing. This movie will put Paula in the hero role, but still treat Bill fairly.”

In truth, Monica Lewinsky lied in her testimony for the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit, which is the only reason why Bill Clinton got impeached. For Americans to understand the reality of the process, they need to see the characters of Paula Jones and Monica. Even ten years later, Paula Jones still has strong feelings about her unwanted interaction with Bill Clinton. She said, “I don’t really care that I’m not the focus of the other Bill Clinton movie, but without the Jones v. Clinton lawsuit, it cannot be an accurate portrayal of the truth.”
